We know that this is a particularly difficult time for year 6 children and their families. These are some resources and links to websites that you may find useful for thinking about transition and preparing to start your new school. Please contact the school if you need further support.
Moving on to high school is a significant event for children and families. Your child will go from being the oldest in the school to the youngest.
They also need to adapt to becoming more independent by going from lesson to lesson, maybe travelling on a school bus. They also need to prepare themselves with all the right equipment each day. If your child has an additional need this can increase anxiety about going to high school.
Moving on from school and into adulthood can be a scary time for you and your child, especially if your child has an additional need or disability. If your child has health or care needs, they will normally need to move from a service which supports children to a service which supports adults. These services might be very different, so ensuring this happens smoothly can be difficult.
