Home Learning Year 4

Welcome to the Year 4 Home Learning Page

As we enter the second week of your time away from school, we hope you and your families are all keeping well. It seems strange not being at school, but we hope you are managing to keep busy, and more importantly, staying safe at home.

Although it may be tempting to treat this time away from school like a holiday, please remember that there is an expectation that you are completing learning at home.

For parents wondering how much we are expecting children to do each day, please see the following timetable:

Year 4 daily timetable

As always, we recommend that children are reading as much as possible, and practising spellings and times tables for rapid recall. There are links below to Times Tables Rock Stars, Readiwriter and MyOn.

There is a MyOn section on the home learning page with a link to a tutorial. MyOn enables children to read books online so it’s really important children access this daily as they are not at school to access books in the library. The login and password are the same as for Accelerated Reader but must all be in capital letters. When children first log on they will need to click ‘Connect now’ which will prompt them to put their login details in again. This will then link their account to their Accelerated Reader account to give them the correct reading range (ZPD). This will take 24 hours to sync. We hope children enjoy reading some new books online.

They could also keep a diary each day, documenting their activities, thoughts and feelings. They should include fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases and a range of punctuation including commas, exclamation marks and inverted commas to punctuate speech.

Please find below a booklet of Maths and English tasks and some reading comprehensions to complete at home this week, as well as the Week 2 menu of activities to try. After Easter we will upload the third booklet and menu, and continue to do so each Monday that we are off.

We have compiled a list of useful websites to support your child’s home learning. This includes links to websites which the children already use at school, as well as some other useful places to play games and practise a range of skills.

Feel free to look at learning packs in other year groups if your child is struggling or would like a challenge.

To contact the Year 4 teaching team for assistance with any of the home learning tasks, please email us on: y4@northdenes.norfolk.sch.uk

  • Times Tables Rock Stars
All children have their own account and should aim to play for a minimum of 15 minutes, 3 times a week. They should remember to complete a Sound Check each day. Encourage them to challenge their friends in Rock Slam.
  • White Rose Maths
The White Rose Maths Team has prepared a series of five maths lessons for each year group from Year 1-8. They will be adding five more each week for the next few weeks. Every lesson comes with a short video showing you clearly and simply how to help your child to complete the activity successfully.
  • My Maths (coming soon)
Interactive Maths learning. We will set tasks which can be completed online. We will be able to see how you’ve got on with these tasks.
  • Hit the Button
Quick fire Maths practise, particularly times tables.
  • More Maths games
It would be useful to focus on games involving decimals, multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100, and telling the time on both analogue and digital clocks.

  • Readiwriter
Spelling Practise – Log in to find your latest word list, play the games and test yourself. We will update the word lists weekly, and don’t forget you can also access previous word lists to keep practising those, too. If you have not received your username and password, please email us and we will send the details to you.
  • MyOn – this should be up and running by the end of Monday! WATCH THIS SPACE!
This links to Accelerated Reader and allows children to read from a huge collection of ebooks and take quizzes online. Please use the link above to ensure you are directed to the UK site, not the US one. Pupils’ logins are the same as Accelerated Reader, however everything is in capitals. When pupils first log on they need to ensure they click the option to ‘connect now’, which will ask them for their Accelerated reader login details and will link MyOn to AR. This will link their ZPD (reading level) to Star Reader outcomes and recommend books based on their ZPD. Please be aware that this may take up to 24 hours.  Please e-mail us if you have any problems getting logged in. There is a parent guide PDF available on the main Home Learning page if this helps!
  • Oxford Owl for Home
Lots of free resources for Primary age. Create a free login to access e-books.
  • Pobble365
A different image each day – answer questions, complete a variety of grammar based tasks and use the story starter to write your own story based on the image.
