Home Learning Year 6

Hello and welcome to the Year 6 Home Learning Page!

  • Recap specific grammatical terminology- this can be completed using Bugclub (see link below- username example Joe Bloggs username would be jblo, password abc, the school code is ndms)
  • Practise spellings from the Y5/6 word list and put them in sentences, look particularly at the spelling patterns (look at the spelling link below and Readiwriter)
  • Read lots of different types of texts that you might have at home- try to read for at least 15 minutes a day. Is there an Accelerated Reader quiz for that book? (Login link below- username example Joe Bloggs username would be jblo, password abc). Look at MyOn link to follow
  • Go on Times Table Rockstars every day
  • Look at the Topic and Science work menu for afternoon work

Week 8

 Welcome back everyone!

We hope you’ve all had a good (if not different) half-term break.  At least we had the beautiful weather to enjoy!

Well done to those of you who continued to do some work during the holidays – remember, you can take a book anywhere, it doesn’t have to be indoors.  Maybe you could take and share photos of yourself reading in the more ‘unusual’ places (I’m lying on my lawn as this is being typed!).

As usual, there is new work assigned for you on MyMaths – please try to do a little every day- as well as your MyOn, TTRS and new workpack.

Your school reports will be sent out to your parents on Monday 1st June – if you would like to discuss yours, you can contact us in the usual way by emailing  y6@northdenes.norfolk.sch.uk.

Take care and stay safe

Mrs Gadsdon and Miss Burrage

Half Term

Hello everyone

So we have reached another half term and it’s good news as the weather is meant to be fabulous, so make sure to relax and get outside (following the social distancing rules of course). We really are proud of all the home learning that you have done and we are in the process of making a script for your leavers video- you should have emailed us by now if you want to take part, however there are a few spaces left, so if you want to be in it please email us on the address above by Wednesday.

Congratulations to Phoebie Allen-Bean, who did a wonderful job representing the year group winning the TTRS battle of the bands! However the boys won overall for the whole keystage! Still if you took part, well done- we definitely miss doing these at school and you should have a few challenges from us!

Keep safe and keep us up to date with the fun you get up to!

Miss Burrage and Mrs Gadsdon

Week 7

Dear All

Another week over, and another week where we would like to say a massive well done to all of you who have been regularly logging in to the MyMaths; MyOn; Bug Club; TTRS ; etc.  This week’s reading champion was Cohen – well done Cohen!

We’ve loved hearing about–and seeing- some of the work you have been doing this week – it makes us really proud to see the effort you’ve been putting in.

Just so you know this week you’ll have the chance to be a TTRS champion and take part in the BATTLE OF THE BANDS!

‘TT Rockstar competitions – This week is TT Rockstars week, remember times tables accuracy and speed is one of the most important building blocks to being fantastic at maths. If you don’t practise them, you soon forget them. To help you with this we have set up 2 competitions this week.
Sessions competition – Play the garage game 10 times between 7.00am Monday and 5.00pm Thursday and your scores will go on a year group leader board. We will then select the pupil with the highest accuracy. as the Rockstar of the week. If 2 or more pupils have an equal highest accuracy, the pupil with the fastest speed will then be selected.
Battle of the bands – On Friday, just for the fun of it, we will have a massive boys verse girls times table battle for all Year 3,4,5 & 6 pupils. You can play any TT Rockstar game between 9.00am and 2.00pm, with all correct answers from that game contributing to the overall score for your gender. We will find out if boys or girls are the real Rockstars. The winners will be posted on the school website shortly after 2.00pm on Friday.
Please remember you don’t need a laptop, PC or tablet. Just grab your parents phone (best to ask first😊) and you can login to TT Rockstar and join in.’

Have a look at this week’s challenges – the weather forecast is looking good, so make time for some outdoor learning too!

This weeks riddle……What begins with an E but only has one letter?

Keep up the great work

Take care, stay safe

Week 6

Hi guys,

We just want to congratulate you on all the home learning you’re continuing to do and the emails we’re getting from you. Last week’s reading champion was Emily Holloway- well done! If you’re reading books you have at home, please drop us an email to keep us up to date.  Also do tell us if you’re finding the work to easy or too difficult, we do a range of challenges and all we ask is that you try your best (we know that everyone is trying their very hardest during this difficult period).

We just wanted to say well done to you for all the hard work you’ve done this year. This week would have been SATs week and we know you’d have done well. In case you feel like a challenge this week’s home learning is a funny take on a SATs paper- have a go and see if you like it.

Keep it up year 6 and year 6 parents- you can do this!

Good luck and keep safe.

Miss Burrage and Mrs Gadsdon

Week 5 message

Hello everyone!

We both hope you and your families are all keeping well.  It’s been great seeing all of the time spent on MyOn; MyMaths and TTRS – remember you can still go on Accelerated Maths and Bug Club too.

If you haven’t already seen the message on MyOn, this is to let you know that one fantastic reader from each year group, who has been spending time on MyOn, will be in for a chance to receive a yummy surprise at the end of each week!  This week’s winner was Lily-Rae – well done to her!

It’s been lovely hearing from you, and seeing some of the fantastic work you’ve done over the week – we’re so proud that you are spending time doing this – keep it up!

Just for fun (and because you miss it…!)

What runs all around a backyard, yet never moves?

Take care, and keep at it

We do miss you…

Week 4 Message!

Hi guys,

Firstly, we wanted to start with a bit of normality- you know we both love riddles- can you guess this one? Email us your answers using your NSIX account.

What type of cheese is made backwards?

Also, we just wanted to say well done to those of you who have been accessing your online work. We know it’s different working at home, however doing your work will keep you busy and most of the work should be revision for you. We do check every day and we can see what you’re doing, well done to those children who are also sending in pictures of what they’ve been up to. We have also had some wonderful emails from children, so if you want to email us remember you can.

Please remember to complete your reading too, this is really important as it’s a lifelong skill that you will use daily. MyOn is also linked to Accelerated Reader, which means you can practise your comprehension skills too.

My Maths and MyOn can both be accessed from your phones, tablets and iPads, as well as laptops and computers of course. If you need help logging in to My Maths, remember it’s the schools username and password first and then the second one is your individual one. Again if you get stuck, just drop us an email.

Keep it up year 6 and year 6 parents- you can do this!

Good luck and keep safe.

Miss Burrage and Mrs Gadsdon 🙂 🙂

Week 3 Message!

First week back after the Easter Holidays!

Hello everyone

We both hope you enjoyed your Easter holidays- even though it was somewhat different to a normal holiday, and have managed to stay safe and healthy.

Just a reminder that there are lots of things for you to do – you all have your Log-ins for AR; Bug Club; Readireader; MyOn, Times Tables Rockstar; as well as having your books, work, activities, a new menu on what would’ve been our topic for this term and lots of ideas on our web page to follow.  We do have an exciting new programme for you called MyMaths, which will have work set on it for you to complete – the Log in details will be sent to you, please have a go.

We know it can seem difficult to get motivated to do school work, but please try to set aside some time each morning to do a little.  Follow the Daily Checklist as a guide, after all, we don’t know when we’ll be returning, so it’s best to keep your hand in!

Remember if you want to send us a message – either a question, or just a quick note to say ‘hello’- there is an email for you to contact us direct (we will check these daily during normal school hours).

Stay safe, take care and we’ll hopefully see you soon – we do miss you all!

Mrs Gadsdson and Miss Burrage xxx

Week 2 Message!

Hello Year 6!

We hope you’re staying safe and completing your home learning. We know this is a difficult time for you, but we have added some websites to make it easier for you (we hope). The most important update is MyOn, this will allow you to read and take quizzes at home (you can find more out on the letter below). Remember to send pictures of your work to the year 6 email, it’s great to see some of you already doing this. Also, if you’re stuck on anything remember to send us an email, or if you just want to practise your letter writing, write to us. We will get back to you as soon as we can.

Click on the link below to find a longer letter/ Daily checklist/ Extra ideas.

Week 2 Update- READ me

Try and do your best at home but also remember to take breaks. We both miss you all and hope to hear from you soon.

Miss Burrage and Mrs Gadsdon 🙂

CGP Packs- Reading, Maths and Grammar

Please take your time with these, doing one section at a time, treat it like you would your books in school. If you do come back to school, we would like to see them. We know the answers are in the back of the book, but we trust you to try first, maybe get your adults to mark them for you.

If your child is finding this level too difficult (or they need more to keep them busy), feel free to look at other year groups.
