Back to (online) school!
We hope you have had a lovely half term and have enjoyed getting outside to enjoy the sunshine. We have been missing seeing your smiling faces but trust you are staying well and enjoying your family time.
Children’s reports will be emailed out to you on Monday 1st June along with their latest pupil mentoring form. If you would like to discuss your child’s report please email us at Y4@northdenes.norfolk.sch.uk and we will be happy to respond to you.
This week we have added a project to MyOn for those of you who would like to have a go. You will be able to read a book about solids, liquids and gases and complete a couple of activities afterwards. Just log on to MyOn and the project is assigned to you. This would have been one of our science topics for the summer term and learning about the states of matter is a lot of fun. Maybe you could try your own practical experiments too, changing solids to liquids and vice versa? Email us a photo or two if you do!
We have also uploaded a maths and English booklet from Classroom Secrets, along with the guidance if needed, that contains a daily maths and English activity.
If you would like a pack from a different year group please let us know or visit the website.
The rest of the home learning links are below along with a new homework menu. We hope you enjoy some of the activities.
The CORE HOME LEARNING we would like you to do is: My Maths, Times Tables Rock Stars, MyOn and Readiwriter. If you would like more, there is a new Home Learning Menu uploaded below with a range of activities to choose from.
- My Maths
Interactive Maths learning. Each week, we will set tasks which can be completed online. Aim to complete at least one a day. We will be able to see how you’ve got on with these tasks.
- Times Tables Rock Stars
Aim to play for a minimum of 15 minutes, 3 times a week. Remember to complete a Sound Check each day. Why not challenge your friends or teacher in Rock Slam?
This links to Accelerated Reader and allows you to read from a huge collection of ebooks and take quizzes online. Please use the link above to ensure you are directed to the UK site, not the US one.
Spelling Practise – Log in to find your latest word list, play the games and test yourself. We will update the word lists weekly, and don’t forget you can also access previous word lists to keep practising those, too.
Parents: Please rest assured that we are not expecting you to teach the children but to keep them going as well as you can. We appreciate that this is not an easy task with all that’s going on. Doing some school activities in the morning and resting in the afternoon is a suggested model to follow. Please try to ensure children are exercising daily. There are links to some PE activities below.
We do understand that some children enjoy home learning more than others so for those who would like to do more, here is the new optional activity menu:
1st – 5th June: Home Learning Week 8
All work previously set is still available below, as are some links to more websites you may find useful.
*There is a MyOn section on the home learning page with a link to a tutorial. MyOn enables children to read books online so it’s really important children access this daily as they are not at school to access books in the library. The login and password are the same as for Accelerated Reader but must all be in capital letters. When children first log on they will need to click ‘Connect now’ which will prompt them to put their login details in again. This will then link their account to their Accelerated Reader account to give them the correct reading range (ZPD). This will take up to 24 hours to sync. We hope children enjoy reading some new books online.
Previous Home Learning Set:
To contact the Year 4 teaching team for assistance with any of the home learning tasks, login queries, or just to say hello, please email us on: firstname.lastname@example.org
Clearly we now know that the residential to How Hill will not go ahead this term. We are so disappointed for the children who, like us, had really been looking forward to it.
How Hill currently have the majority of their staff furloughed, thus everything is on hold their end. Once they are back in the office, they will be able to give us more guidance on whether the visit can be moved to later in the year, when the children are in Year 5, or whether the money already paid will be refunded.
Thank you for your patience.
